Vietnam War Syndrome
Vietnam was a terrible and upsetting war. Over 56,000 men and women gave their lives to protect South Vietnam from being invaded by the communistic North Vietnam. During this time many war protests were taking place against the war and the soldiers. When news reached America that North Vietnam had won, the hearts of the people turned cold. When the soldiers returned from the war, they were looked upon as pariahs and more or less shunned from society. The World War I and II veterans returned, they were given parades, medals, and admiration for serving their country. They had success, but since the Vietnam soldiers lost, they were labeled failures and outcasts. This caused many problems such as causing them to become unsociable and got many psychological problems such as PTSD.
PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) causes the veteran to remember painful and scary memories about the war. Many of the veterans felt that they could never return to society and lived with many problems. George W. Bush gave a eulogy to try to ease the effects of the syndrome but most people found it inappropriate and unhelpful.

· First time PTSD it was treated/diagnosed as an illness
· George H. W. Bush claimed "kicked the Vietnam syndrome once and for all," however this statement was premature
